When I was brought on to help develop the initial Psych Central illustration style, I was constantly thinking of how the subject matter of mental health would affect the types of things the design team would be conceptualizing.

I was given a color palette of deep blues and warm yellow and oranges. It was easy to draw the connections between the palette and the stories; light and shadow, illuminating a stigmatized conversation.

The style became focused on these contrasts and how they could be utilized to represent difficult concepts.
